Old Town San Diego State Historic Park

When visiting Old Town, San Diego, you’ll find a wealth of history. Located at 4002 Wallace St, San Diego, CA 92110. Visit the Mason Street School, which was built in 1865. Now a museum, it offers educational exhibits, historical artifacts, and demonstrations on how to make gold objects. Museum hours are winter and spring; summer hours are from April to October. While the school itself is not open to the public, you can watch the students at work by viewing a video.

The Robinson Rose House is another must-see attraction in Old Town. This 1853 house has served as a prison, courthouse, and newsroom. Its former parochial church was used to host the famous Ramona wedding. In 1919, the church of the Immaculate Conception was dedicated. The oldest business in the state is Black Hawk Livery & Blacksmith, which is a museum itself. The San Diego Union newspaper building was also a public schoolhouse.

Old Town also has an interesting religious history. The main church is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, which was established by Father Junipero Serra. In 1769, San Diego became the first mission in California. After the arrival of the first settlers, the city began to take on a strong religious character. In 1848, the adobe church was rededicated to the Immaculate Conception. In 1917, construction on a new church began. Its dedication to travelers is one of the reasons that it still stands today.

While it is hard to find parking in Old Town, there are several places that provide it for visitors. Old Town is located near a major transit hub, so you can get around by taking the Coaster, the Train, or the MTS Trolley. If you prefer to drive, you can take a taxi or walk for a few blocks. A good idea is to arrive early to avoid long lines.

The Gaslamp Quarter is also home to some of the city’s most exciting nightlife. Once named for the 50 gas lamps that lit the streets, this area has become one of the most popular areas in San Diego. You’ll find fashionable restaurants, clubs, and bars here. There is something for everyone, so go ahead and spend a night downtown! You’ll be glad you did! The Maritime Museum is another must-visit site. You’ll get a hands-on experience of the city’s seaport days as you tour the historic vessels. You can visit the Junipero Serra Museum, named for the Spanish monk who helped colonize the city. This famous landmark features 3,000 Torrey pines and is located in the beautiful Presidio Park.
